Bentley's Bandstand

Paul Thorn’s righteous American rock is music that’s made so far off the map that he named his label Perpetual Obscurity. Thorn doesn’t shrink from any battles, though, addressing head on the dark road our country turned down seven years ago, at the same time he holds out hope there’s still a way to make things right. Love and mercy, of course, are the answer (aren’t they always?), and Thorn’s songs show he is one man who is standing up waiting to be counted. It’s amazing how an artist like this, with as good a group on any bandstand anywhere, hasn’t drawn more heat. So the next time you find yourself clicking cluelessly around amazon.com, head for this album. The last song begins with the words of wisdom below, and at such a crucial crossroads in our country’s history, are well worth hearing.

“Who were you loyal to
What were you passionate about
What did you believe in
Beyond a shadow of a doubt

Who were your teachers
Did you have one true friend
These are things worth knowing
When the long road ends”
